A historic north-east Victorian region, world-famous for fortified Muscat and Topaque.
History
Vineyards were planted during the 1850s gold rush, and by the late 1800s Rutherglen was one of Australia's largest wine regions. Families such as Chambers, Morris, Campbells, All Saints and Stanton & Killeen have made wine here for generations.
After phylloxera the region focused on the fortified wines that made it famous.
