Shottesbrooke

Shottesbrooke's story began in 1981, when founder Nick Holmes planted his first vineyard near the tiny hamlet of Myponga, south of McLaren Vale. The quality of that fruit sparked his passion for making wines from in and around McLaren Vale, and he went on to buy the property at McLaren Flat, where he built the Shottesbrooke winery and cellar door.

Today the business is led by Nick's stepson Hamish Maguire, general manager and chief winemaker. Raised among McLaren Vale vineyards, Hamish trained as a teenage cellar hand at Ryecroft, completed science and business degrees at Adelaide University, then spent three years working in wine in France, Spain, England and New York, including a Bordeaux vintage, before studying winemaking at Charles Sturt University. He became principal winemaker in 2004 and has driven the winery's growth; it now crushes about 1,200 tonnes a year with storage for almost a million litres.

Shottesbrooke makes wines from estate-owned and managed vineyards in McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills, regions renowned for Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, and exports to Asia, the USA, Canada and Europe. Visitors can taste at the McLaren Flat cellar door and book tours and experiences.
