Casa Freschi

Casa Freschi is a small family winery with two very different South Australian vineyards. The Profondo vineyard at Langhorne Creek has 2.5 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Malbec planted in 1972 and 2 hectares of Nebbiolo planted in 1999, on calcareous soils of clay, loam and sand over clay, marl and gravel, cooled by the large freshwater Lake Alexandrina just 4 kilometres to the south.

In March 2003 the family found the white-wine site they had been looking for: a 15-hectare property in the Adelaide Hills at 550 to 600 metres, among the highest, steepest and coolest sites in the region, where the Moulds family had grown orchards and market gardens since the 1850s. It has two steep, north-facing amphitheatres and 10 hectares of natural bushland.

In 2004 and 2005, 3.2 hectares were planted at high density to 13 top clones of four white varieties, most new to Australia, and farmed without synthetic fertilisers, fungicides, herbicides or pesticides.
