A high-acid, mineral white grape from Santorini, now planted in Australia's warm regions.
History
Assyrtiko comes from the volcanic island of Santorini, where its vines are trained in low baskets to protect them from the wind. It keeps high acidity even in heat.
Assyrtiko in Australia
Assyrtiko was first planted in Australia in the Clare Valley in the 2010s and has since attracted interest from other warm-climate producers.
Tasting notes
Medium-bodied with high acidity. Expect lemon, lime and green apple with a strong mineral, saline finish.
