Z Wine, with Z for Zerk, is the creation of sisters Janelle and Kristen Zerk, who grew up together in the Barossa Valley on a vineyard that has been in their family for five generations, drawing on more than 160 years of Barossa heritage. Janelle is the winemaker and Kristen the managing director.
The sisters make bold yet elegant Barossa wines, many from old family vines. Their [JULIUS] single vineyard Shiraz from the southern Barossa, named after Kristen's son and their grandfather's middle name, won Best of Show and Best South Australian Shiraz at the 2020 Great Australian Shiraz Challenge; Kristen calls it one of their most cellarable wines, able to age 25 to 30 years. The [HILDER] Ancestor Vine Mataro scored 98 points and top Mataro in a best-of-the-best ranking, and James Halliday has praised their Grenache for its very high winemaking skill.
The Z Wine cellar door and wine bar is on Murray Street in Tanunda, where the range can be tasted and bought, and the sisters host degustation dinners for their loyal customers.
