Word of Mouth Wines is an Orange producer formed from two neighbouring vineyards: Donnington, established in 1991 by James Gordon and Sharyn Pussell, and Pinnacle Wines, established in 1999 by Peter Gibson. The partnership ran successfully for more than a decade and earned a five-star rating from James Halliday in 2010.
Peter, a retired TAFE fine art teacher, continued a family tradition: his grandfather Milne Gibson grew grapes and fruit at McLaren Flat and pioneered the dried fruit industry, and his father Ninian was a founding member of what became the Clare Valley co-operative. Peter's small, three-hectare vineyard sits at 1,013 metres, hence the Pinnacle name, and was the first in Orange to plant Pinot Gris, later adding Viognier and Petit Manseng.
The cellar door offers a relaxed, friendly place to learn about the varieties the team grows and loves.
