Wild Game Wine is a small, family-owned and independent winery on a farm in the north-east of Coonawarra, unusual for farming hills in the region. Its two small vineyards, 5 hectares of Shiraz and 7 of Cabernet Sauvignon, sit on north- and south-facing slopes and are farmed biologically.
Guy studied farm management in Victoria and the UK, and Mary, a viticultural scientist, runs her own consultancy. Their fruit was too good to sell, so their friend Peter Douglas, a former senior winemaker at Wynns, began making it into wine.
The business was formalised in 2012 with the first Cabernet, The Duke. The cellar door and wine bar are in Naracoorte, next to the regional art gallery.
