Water Wheel

Water Wheel is a family wine business at Bridgewater on Loddon, 50 kilometres north-west of Bendigo, which released its first Shiraz in 1974. The Bendigo area made many great wines during Victoria's 19th-century boom, but its vineyards, including those at Bridgewater, were pulled out in the late 1800s to control the spread of disease. Water Wheel helped revive winemaking there.

The early wines were successful and the vineyards expanded, and a new winery, still in use today, was built in 1980. In 1989 local Peter Cumming bought the winery and vineyards, and the business has since grown to more than 100 hectares of vines, with sales across Australia and overseas.

Water Wheel makes rich reds, especially Shiraz, and refreshing whites, and keeps exploring new sites, varieties and styles.
