Tscharke

Tscharke is a Barossa family winery at Marananga, and one of only three certified organic and biodynamic vineyards among more than 150 Barossa wineries. Six generations of the family have worked this ground, starting at Gnadenfrei where the Tscharkes first settled, and now extending across Stone Well and Greenock Creek, sites rooted in Barossa history.

The soils of the Western Ridge are the oldest in the Barossa, giving low yields, deep roots and fruit that tastes unmistakably of its block. The vineyards are certified organic and farmed with biodynamic and regenerative practices, with living mid-rows, compost and a focus on soil biology instead of synthetic herbicides, pesticides and fertilisers, plus solar energy, reclaimed water, and compost-making workshops and education days. The family believes such farming will soon be an expectation rather than a point of difference.

In March 2026, mid-vintage, Tscharke installed its own bottling line, so from that vintage every wine is grown, made, aged and bottled within a few hundred metres at Marananga. The cellar door, in a characterful house where a muster of peacocks roams the grounds, opens Monday to Saturday, and The Underground Experience offers an intimate tasting beneath the soil.
