Teusner

Teusner began with a conversation overheard in a Barossa pub in 2001, when grape growers the Riebke brothers were discussing pulling out their 85-year-old Grenache vines. Kym Teusner and his then brother-in-law Mick Page struck a deal and saved the vines, and Kym's winemaking vision found its direction: to make wines he would like to drink that reflect the heritage of the Barossa.

The first wine, Joshua, an unoaked Grenache-based blend released in 2002, went against the trends of the day and was a resounding success. Old vines on their own roots, mostly dry grown, combined with Kym's contemporary and gentle winemaking remain the core of Teusner's philosophy. Close, respectful relationships with Barossa grape-growing families, many with multi-generational knowledge of their sites, have been a priority from the start.

While the Barossa is famous for old-vine Shiraz, Kym is equally passionate about Grenache and Mataro and how they complement it. Teusner draws on the diversity of the valley, from the deep sands of Ebenezer and the cooler, leaner Eden Valley to the rocky brown soils of Stonewell, offering a broad range of wines that each show provenance and individuality.
