TarraWarra Estate

TarraWarra Estate is a Yarra Valley winery that brings together wine, landscape and art. Founders Marc and Eva Besen bought the property in 1979, and with encouragement from the pioneering Yarra winemaker Dr John Middleton they planted their first six hectares of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in 1983.

The 400-hectare property now has 23.9 hectares of vines, alongside a nature reserve, cattle grazing, a kitchen garden, a cellar door and a one-hat restaurant. All wines are grown, hand-picked and made on site, with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir still at the core. As members of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, the team tracks energy, fertiliser and water use each year, and uses cover crops and organic fertilisers to build soil health.

The estate is also home to the TarraWarra Museum of Art and a Visible Art Storage, holding one of Australia's most significant collections of modern and contemporary art.
