Stefano Lubiana

Stefano Lubiana Wines is a family winery at Granton on the Derwent River in southern Tasmania, established in 1990 by a sixth-generation winegrowing family whose ancestors made wine in Italy; their son Marco Lubiana is now in the business. The low-cropping 28-hectare estate is planted mostly to the two great Burgundian varieties, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and the winery is also known for its sparkling wines.

Stefano Lubiana was Tasmania's first certified biodynamic vineyard, farming biodynamically since 2010, so its wines are made without synthetic chemicals. Following cosmic rhythms and focusing on soil regeneration and vine health, the family says these methods sharpen their attention to detail and make them more attuned to the relationships between the soils, their organisms and the local environment.

With meticulous vineyard work and thoughtful winemaking, the estate's Pinot Noirs have been named Best Biodynamic Wine in the World. The family loves to experiment, so visitors to the cellar door may find unexpected wines alongside the estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
