St Hugo

St Hugo was born in the Barossa to honour winemaking legend Hugo Gramp, grandson of pioneering vigneron Johann Gramp, who founded the Gramp & Sons winery in 1847. Hugo led the winery through a period of unparalleled growth from 1920 to 1938 and inspired his son Colin, who went on to help revolutionise the Australian wine industry and launched St Hugo in his father's honour. Since its first vintage in 1980, St Hugo has been known for wines that balance power and elegance.

The range celebrates iconic red varieties from two acclaimed regions, Coonawarra and the Barossa Valley, with roots in Cabernet Sauvignon. A single-vineyard collection highlights the nuances of the best sites, and Vetus Purum, from the Latin for 'ancient' and 'pure', describes the terroir of one of its flagship wines. Beyond the reds, St Hugo makes modern Chardonnay and Riesling from carefully selected Eden Valley fruit.

The cellar door and restaurant occupy a beautifully restored building among the vines at Rowland Flat, less than an hour north of Adelaide, with views of the Barossa Ranges. It houses the Hugo Wine Lounge for tastings, the two-hatted St Hugo restaurant, a private room and an outdoor deck, and the Legends of the Vines experience explores the heritage of St Hugo and its sister brands.
