Shepherd's Hut

Shepherd's Hut is a family vineyard in the Porongurup region of Western Australia's Great Southern, established in 1996 by the Wishart family. The first vines were planted by Michael and Valerie Wishart and Phil and Cathy Wishart, and the third generation now looks after it.

The name comes from an 1850s hut of honey-coloured Mount Barker sandstone found in ruins on the property, once used by shepherds grazing flocks along the Kalgan River. As they planted their first vines on the north-facing slopes of their sheep and cattle farm, the family rebuilt it stone by stone in its original style.

The hut now overlooks the vineyard, with sweeping views to the Porongurup and Stirling ranges.
