Ravensworth

Ravensworth was started in 2001 at Murrumbateman in the Canberra District, 'because it seemed like a good idea at the time', and has become a family affair run by Bryan and Jocelyn Martin with David Martin. Bryan was previously winemaker alongside Tim Kirk at Clonakilla, the Canberra region's flagship, before putting all his energy into his own label, which has gained cult status among collectors.

Bryan is known as one of Australia's most creative and inquisitive winemakers. Ravensworth's Shiraz Viognier follows the Murrumbateman tradition made famous by Clonakilla, Sangiovese has been a favourite since the beginning, and Nebbiolo from Brian Mullany's vineyard at Young is a newer addition. Fruit comes from the family's own vineyard and a few others in the region to spread the risk of growing in a challenging climate.

The winery also makes a range of textural white and experimental wines, often fermented in amphorae and other unusual vessels.
