Plan B! Wines has been making what it calls "Minimal Pretention Wines" since 2003, drawing fruit from across Western Australia's premium regions, including Margaret River, Frankland River, Great Southern and Geographe. The business was founded by Terry Chellappah, who runs it with a playful sense of humour, and the wines are made by Vanessa Carson, known for her skill and inventive styles.
The range is recognisable by its short letter codes, from the 'Dr.' and 'OD' Rieslings and 'MW' Modern White to 'MR' Modern Red, 'TV' Tempranillo Viognier and a Tempranillo Rosado, along with single-site wines and occasional rarities.
Plan B! was named one of James Halliday's Top 10 Dark Horse Wineries for 2020. Free of corporate influence, it focuses on expressive wines at fair prices, and its bottles now travel well beyond Australia, from Finland to Malaysia.
