Oakvale Wines has helped shape the history of wine in the Hunter Valley for nearly 120 years and takes a holistic approach to winemaking. It practises organics both on its farm and in its winery: organic farming began on the Ablington vineyard in 2013, and after years of dedicated work Oakvale received Australian Certified Organic certification at the end of 2019 for the winery and Ablington farm.
The team believes great wines are made in the vineyard, delivering exceptional estate-grown fruit through year-round, hands-on viticulture and sourcing only from regional vineyards that meet the same standards. In the winery, a philosophy of minimal intervention and modern techniques aims to show the true expression of each vineyard without unnecessary manipulation, seeing winemaking as both art and science. The result is wines with fewer preservatives and synthetic inputs, all vegan friendly, crafted for complexity, richness and finesse.
The cellar door is popular with Hunter Valley visitors, and booking a tasting is recommended in busy periods.
