Mr Barval Fine Wines is a small, family-owned winery in Margaret River run by winemaker Rob Gherardi. He grew up picking grapes with three generations of his Italian family in the Swan Valley and Margaret River, then making wine in his nonna's backyard.
Rob started at Moss Wood, moving from a summer vineyard job to assistant winemaker and viticulturist, then worked at Brown Hill Estate and Cullen Wines, where he took up biodynamic viticulture. He spent four years with Elio Altare in Barolo and in 2014 joined Conterno Fantino in Monforte d'Alba.
The cellar door sits beside the Calgardup Brook among forest and vineyard, with relaxed tastings, a degustation and barrel-room tours with Rob.
