Mount Benson Estate is a small vineyard and winery two kilometres inland from the coast at Mount Benson, on South Australia's Limestone Coast, owned by Brian and Carolyn. After an earlier tree change, they went looking for a 'wine and sea change' in 2013, searched coastal eastern Australia, and in early 2015 Carolyn found a vineyard near the beach.
Their modest vineyard produces all the grapes for their bespoke wines, which reflect the coastal terroir and relaxed seaside lifestyle. The site has history: the first vineyard in the Mount Benson region was planted here in the late 1980s with Cabernet Sauvignon by Bill Wehl, a retired lobster fisherman, and his wife Margaret, and expanded with Shiraz in the 1990s.
Visitors are welcome at the estate's cellar door on Wrights Bay Road.
