Moss Wood

Moss Wood is one of the founding estates of the Margaret River wine region, in the northern sub-region of Wilyabrup. Its first Cabernet Sauvignon vines were planted in 1969 by Bill and Sandra Pannell, and the first vintage produced 250 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon; Semillon and Pinot Noir followed.

Clare and Keith Mugford, the winemakers, viticulturists and owners, have tended the vineyard and made the wine since 1979 and 1984, and later added the Ribbon Vale vineyard, planted between 1977 and 1982. Moss Wood was founded as a specialist, high-quality winery, and every decision in the vineyard and winery is judged by its effect on wine quality.

The wines are among Australia's most acclaimed: the 2017 Chardonnay was named Best Chardonnay in the 2020 Halliday Wine Companion with 99 points, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon was 'best of the best' Cabernet in 2021, and Ray Jordan gave the 2014 Cabernet his highest-ever score of 99.
