Mirus Vineyards is on the Barossa's Western Ridge, overlooking Marananga and Seppeltsfield, on a property farmed for more than 100 years by four generations of the Neldner family, with its first vineyards planted in the late 1800s. When it came up for sale in 2021, viticulturists Luke Edwards and Nick Radford, though not looking for a vineyard, saw its potential; two families took over on the eve of one of the Barossa's worst hailstorms.
Twenty-one blocks over 30 acres wind between an ancient sand hill and an ironstone ridge, with bush-vine Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro and Cabernet Sauvignon. Nick and his partner Kirsty trained in biodynamics around the world and founded one of the first biodynamic vineyards in the Barossa.
In late 2022 the property opened as Wonderground, combining a contemporary art gallery, sculpture gardens and a cellar door for the Mirus single-block wines.
