Margan Wines

Margan is a multi-generational, family-owned grape-growing and winemaking business established in 1996 by Andrew and Lisa Margan at Broke, in the Broke Fordwich sub-region of the Hunter Valley. The family describes itself first as a farming company, and it now farms about 90 hectares of vines on the Fordwich Sill, a volcanic soil formation nearly 200 million years old.

Its vineyards, including Fordwich Hill, Timbervines and Saxonvale, combine vines more than 50 years old of the Hunter's traditional varieties (Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz) with newer plantings such as Albariño, Barbera and Tempranillo. All wines are estate grown and made on the farm, and the winery holds a five-red-star Halliday rating.

Margan has long been a leader in environmental stewardship: it gained Entwine certification in 2013 and was one of the first Hunter wineries fully accredited by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, and it follows regenerative farming principles. Its rammed-earth cellar door and restaurant make it an agri-dining destination.
