Krondorf

Krondorf takes its name from a Barossa hamlet founded in 1847 by Silesian settlers, whose name means 'Crown Village' in German. As the South Australian wine industry grew, Krondorf became one of the valley's most important settlements, home to families such as the Lehmanns, Nitschkes and Henschkes. The Falkenberg family also began making wine there, in a hay barn on Krondorf Road.

The Krondorf label itself was created during the Barossa's red wine boom of the 1960s and 1970s, when a group of young winemakers, led at first by Grant Burge, made bold and acclaimed wines. Its greatest moment came in 1980, when the Krondorf Cabernet Sauvignon 1979 won the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show.

Today, under chief winemaker Tim Heath, Krondorf focuses on old vines and small-batch winemaking to show the best of the Barossa regional style, with ranges including the Winemaker Release and Vineyard Series.
