Koomilya is a distinctive 35-hectare property in McLaren Vale owned by winemaker Stephen Pannell and his wife Fiona. Stephen fell in love with it in the 1990s, long before acquiring it in 2012. It sits in its own microclimate and produces some of his most memorable Shiraz, with great intensity and structure.
The Pannells also own the Protero vineyard in the Adelaide Hills, which they see as an ideal home for Nebbiolo; the 2022 Protero Nebbiolo was named in Halliday's Top 100 Wines for 2025.
Their approach combines decades of winemaking experience with growing insights, inspiring a generation of winemakers to trust what the land can produce.
