Jasper Hill is a small, family-owned organic vineyard and winery in Heathcote, central Victoria, founded by Ron and Elva Laughton in 1978. Ron, with a background in chemistry and food technology, and Elva, a former milliner, moved to Heathcote in 1980 with their young daughters Emily and Georgia to build a new life in the country.
The two vineyards, Georgia's Paddock and Emily's Paddock, a kilometre apart on ancient soils north of the town, were planted in 1975, with more Shiraz added in 1987 and Nebbiolo, Grenache and Viognier in 1991. They are dry-grown and organic, cane-pruned by hand with careful attention to each vine.
The wines are released each year, and the cellar door welcomes visitors by appointment.
