Irvine Wines was founded in 1983 by Jim Irvine, who quickly won international recognition for raising Australian Merlot to world-class standard. Its Grand Merlot has been named the World's Best Merlot three times, and Irvine remains one of Australia's most awarded Merlot producers.
In 2014 the Miles and Wade families took over the business, expanding the range while keeping Merlot at its heart. The Miles family's grape-growing roots go back five generations: Henry Winter Miles planted the first Shiraz vines on Brian's Block at Angaston in 1867. Irvine is now one of the Barossa's largest privately owned premium grape growers, with almost 400 acres of vineyards, including some of the region's oldest, and an Altitude range from the higher reaches of the Eden Valley.
The cellar door at the family's home block in Angaston offers guided tastings of the estate-grown wines with vineyard views.
