Highland Heritage

Highland Heritage is a cool-climate vineyard and cellar door on the Mitchell Highway at the eastern gateway to Orange, New South Wales, owned by the D'Aquino family. The family's wine story began in 1946, when Sicilian migrant Carmelo D'Aquino made six barrels of wine in a tin shed in Orange, making the D'Aquinos the first winemaking family in the district.

The business passed to his daughter Zina and her husband Illuminato in 1970, and then to their son Rex D'Aquino, a Roseworthy-trained winemaker who joined in 1981 and took over in 1988. In 1991 the family bought the Highland Heritage property; its vineyard, first planted in 1986 with 10 acres, now covers more than 35 acres of six red and white varieties.

In 2016 Rex launched the super-premium Patrono Series to mark 70 years of the family in Orange wine. The cellar door, at one of the region's oldest vineyards, has been voted the best in Orange.
