Heifer Station is a family estate near Orange, New South Wales, close to the region's highest peak, covering 65 acres of red loam over limestone. When it was bought in 2009, the vineyard was barely visible under overgrown blackberries, and it has been restored to make the most of its rich soil and ideal elevation.
The first vintage was in 2012. With a farming philosophy centred on plant and soil health, Heifer Station's single-vineyard wines have won double gold at the Royal Easter Show and Shiraz trophies at the Orange Wine Show and the NSW Shiraz Challenge.
The cellar door opened in 2016 in a century-old wool shed, with gardens, the Funny Farm animals and the Barrel Shed added in 2019. It won gold at the NSW Tourism Awards in 2018 and 2019, and offers vineyard walks and picnics.
