Gunpowder Wines is a Hunter Valley passion project from a Yorkshire-born winemaker, paying homage to Yorkshire heritage and ancestral roots. The name comes from the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, when fellow Yorkshireman Guy Fawkes, who went to the same school in York as the winemaker four centuries earlier, was found in the cellars beneath Parliament among barrels of gunpowder.
The idea is to use the barrels for good this time, to ignite your taste buds instead. True to the Yorkshire love of a good yarn, every bottle opened is a chance to retell the story.
