Gioiello Estate

Gioiello Estate is a family winery in the Yea Valley on the Goulburn River, on the lower slopes of 651-metre Mount Concord in Victoria's Upper Goulburn region. The Schiavello family bought the property, formerly Nar Darak, in the mid-2000s and named it after Gioiello, 'the jewel', a property worked by earlier generations above the hillside town of Sorianello in Calabria.

The estate covers more than a thousand acres of hills, pastures, bush, river flats, springs and billabongs. Its 22 acres of mature vines were planted on north-facing slopes from 1987 to 1992 and are tended by hand, with blocks of Chardonnay on granite and sedimentary soils, Merlot and Syrah.

The wines are made with Scott, who grew up on a family vineyard at Mildura and has worked in the Barossa, Napa, the Loire and Marlborough, in a partnership since 2008.
