Foxeys Hangout

Foxeys Hangout is an intimate, award-winning winery, cellar door and restaurant in the hills of the Mornington Peninsula, established by winemaker brothers Michael and Tony Lee in the late 1990s. The name comes from a local landmark: an ancient eucalypt at the corner of Balnarring and Tubbarubba roads, where two fox trappers hung the day's catch from opposite branches as a scoreboard in the 1930s. One of them, Old Jack, was murdered at his nearby home in 1946, and locals kept hanging foxes, and later wooden effigies, on the tree for decades.

Today Foxeys is a five-star winery known for nationally acclaimed Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay, as well as exceptional sparkling wines, rosé and other premium varieties. Tony's commitment to natural, sustainable viticulture led to biodynamic management of the key vineyards; White Gates, Scotsworth and Kentucky Road vineyards and the Red Hill winery achieved full biodynamic certification for the 2019 vintage, audited annually by Southern Cross Certified. Long-time winemaker Chris, a Peninsula local, now plays a leading role in the winemaking.

Visitors can taste from the barrel, take a hands-on sparkling wine tutorial or a guided vineyard walk, and have lunch in the Red Hill restaurant or at sister venue Morning Sun Vineyard in Main Ridge.
