Forester Estate

Forester Estate is a family-owned winery on Wildwood Road, Yallingup, in the northern Margaret River region, owned by the McKay family. Established in 2001, it is a new-generation winery that aims to show the distinct character of northern Margaret River fruit. The property is surrounded by huge eucalypts that once supported a forestry trade dating to the 1850s, and still has a saw pit used by the original pioneers.

Kevin McKay studied at Muresk Agricultural College, came south with a surfboard and, seeing the region's potential, planted 70 acres of vines at the family's Abbey Vale property in 1986, then developed another 100 acres with contract growers. He turned to winemaking with consultant Dorham Mann, formerly of Sandalford and Houghton, as his mentor, and made wine at Abbey Vale until the family sold it in February 2001.

A French Renaissance-style castle, finished in 2007, houses the reception, a 20-seat private tasting room and offices.
