Domaine A is a Tasmanian estate in the hills near Richmond, in the Coal River Valley. Its story begins in 1973 with Stoney Vineyard, whose first acre was planted by George and Priscilla Park, among the first vines in the valley.
Swiss couple Peter and Ruth Althaus founded Domaine A in 1989 after searching the Southern Hemisphere for a cool-climate site for Bordeaux-inspired wines, and left their lives in Switzerland to make big Cabernet-based reds on 200-million-year-old Jurassic dolerite. The wines became known as some of Australia's finest.
In March 2018 David Walsh, owner of MONA, and his wife Kirsha bought the estate, and Conor van der Reest became winemaker for the Domaine A and Stoney Vineyard wines.
