Darling Estate is a family winery at Whitfield in the King Valley, where the Darling family has lived and worked for more than 100 years, growing apples, tobacco and grapes and raising sheep and cattle. Frederick Darling moved to Cheshunt in 1919 after serving at Gallipoli and on the Western Front.
His son Guy, who fell in love with Bordeaux varieties in France, bought the property that became Koombahla in 1970 and planted the first commercial vineyard in the upper King Valley. In 1990 Guy and his son John began making small quantities of wine under the Darling Estate label, and John took over after Guy's death in 2008.
The cellar door sits in the heart of the vineyard, with views across the vines to Mount Cobbler.
