Dal Zotto Wines

Dal Zotto Wines is a family estate in Victoria's King Valley, founded in 1987 by Otto and Elena Dal Zotto, and recognised as the pioneer of Prosecco in Australia. Otto was born in 1948 in Valdobbiadene, the cool-climate village below the alpine part of Italy's Veneto that is the home of Prosecco, and grew up picking Prosecco grapes on his way to school. When he came to the King Valley, its rolling hills, cool climate and close community felt familiar yet full of opportunity.

The idea was bold: plant Italian varieties in Australian soil and see what happened. At the time, planting Sangiovese and Prosecco anywhere in Australia was a gamble, but Prosecco found a home and Sangiovese thrived. After years of nurturing the vines, Otto and Elena released the first Dal Zotto Prosecco in 2004, just 200 dozen bottles, and in doing so changed the King Valley. The vineyards are recognised under Sustainable Winegrowing Australia.

Now led by the next generation, Dal Zotto remains a family estate built on food, laughter and long tables, with a restaurant and cellar door at Whitfield and accommodation on the estate. It welcomed the Australian Government's decision to protect the Prosecco name for Australian producers.
