Centare Vineyard is by Badgers Creek, about 4 kilometres from Healesville in the Yarra Valley, on Wurundjeri country. From 1863 to 1924 the land was part of Coranderrk, an Aboriginal reserve run by the Victorian government.
A change of ownership in 2018 established Centare and narrowed the plantings to classic regional varieties. Award-winning wines come from Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 1998, and in 2021 and 2022 a 'no-expense-spared' high-density project planted 4 hectares (40,000 vines) of selected clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot, with the first small crops from 2023.
Centare is a member of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia and the national EcoVineyards program, and has planted almost 2,000 native shrubs and grasses as an insectary with local Landcare and council programs.
