Bindi Wines

Bindi Wines is a small, family estate in the Macedon Ranges, 50 kilometres north-west of Melbourne, owned by the Dhillon family. The 170-hectare farm was bought in the 1950s as part of the larger Bundaleer grazing property. Today just seven hectares are planted to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with 15 hectares of eucalypt plantation and the rest farmed and conserved.

Winemaker Michael Dhillon was born in nearby Gisborne, where his mother's family has lived since 1853, and grew up at Bindi. He was assistant winemaker to Stuart Anderson from 1991 and took full charge in 1998, with vintages in Champagne and with Alain Graillot in the Rhône. The vineyard sits at 500 metres on poor quartz and siltstone soils and some volcanic topsoil, with low yields, meticulous hand-tending and high-density plantings of Pinot Noir.

Since 2005 the vineyard has been farmed with organic methods focused on soil life. Bindi is regarded as one of Australia's finest producers of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
